Kimberley Rangers
Kimberley, Western Australia – Indigenous Ranger Biodiversity Surveys & Training
FROM 2010-2013, Murray Wildlife delivered biodiversity survey and conservation training to Indigenous Ranger groups across the Kimberley in Western Australia. The Kimberley is incredibly rich in wildlife. Biodiversity conservation in the Kimberley should be a national priority. The groups have included the Bardi-Jawi, Wunggurr, Paruku, Ngurrara, Karajarri, Nyul Nyul, Nyikina Mangala, Balanggarra and Gooniyandi Rangers.
These remote bush trips cover fauna identification, biodiversity monitoring and wildlife conservation issues. Murray Wildlife has produced ten 12-page wildlife booklets summarising the results from these trips and highlighting key conservation issues like threatened species, endemism, fire management and feral animal control. Copies are available from the Kimberley Land Council. Several page examples are included below.
In 2012 and 2014, collaboration with film maker Nathan Smith helped produce three short films (Bilby Tales, Congarra – Goya Dreaming and Kurlku).
